“Little Wing”–Jimi Hendrix Experience

Jimi Hendrix – Little Wing (Live Royal Albert Hall)

This may be the single greatest guitar song ever recorded. We may or may not agree on that point but I know many of us will never agree on the next point.

“Little Wing” was recorded by two of the greatest guitarists ever, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn.  Jimi Hendrix wrote it and recorded it with the Jimi Hendrix Experience in 1967 on Axis: Bold as Love. Many years later, Stevie Ray Vaughn paid homage to his fore bearer on 1991’s The Sky Is Crying.  Who performs Little Wing” better is an age old question.

“Stevie Ray Vaughan at El Mocambo in 83

Well she’s walking through the clouds

With a circus mind that’s running round

Butterflies and zebras

And moonbeams and fairy tales

That’s all she ever thinks about

Riding with the wind.

When I’m sad, she comes to me

With a thousand smiles, she gives to me free

It’s alright she says it’s alright

Take anything you want from me,

Fly on little wing,

Yeah yeah, yeah, little wing
