“The Man Who Sold The World”–David Bowie

Live at the Beeb 2000

Such a mystery wrapped in an enigma this extraterrestrial ballad evokes. When I hear the song it strikes me as a feature film within so few stanzas. Bowie was channeling some deep other in those years. Below are 2 great Nirvana versions then some alternative Bowie versions follow.

We passed upon the stair, we spoke of was and when
Although I wasn’t there, he said I was his friend
Which came as some surprise I spoke into his eyes
I thought you died alone, a long long time ago
Oh no, not me
I never lost control
You’re face to face
With The Man Who Sold The World
I laughed and shook his hand, and made my way back home
I searched for form and land, for years and years I roamed
I gazed a gazely stare at all the millions here
We must have died alone, a long long time ago
Who knows? not me
We never lost control
You’re face to face
With the Man who Sold the World

That song for me always exemplified kind of how you feel when you’re young, when you know there’s a piece of yourself that you haven’t really put together yet… this great searching, this great need to find out who you really are.

The Stone Roses – I Wanna Be Adored (Live In Blackpool)

Thank’s for the submission!! This is a new song to me but it is clearly unique and lovely. It is gentle, beautiful, rocking and all at once brooding and intense like Conrad’s towering green jungle.

I don’t have to sell my soul
He’s already in me
I don’t need to sell my soul
He’s already in me

I wanna be adored
I wanna be adored

I don’t have to sell my soul
He’s already in me

I don’t need to sell my soul
He’s already in me

I wanna be adored
I wanna be adored

Adored

I wanna be adored
You adore me
You adore me
You adore me
I wanna
I wanna
I wanna be adored

Wanna
I wanna
I wanna be adored

I wanna
I wanna
I wanna be adored

I wanna
I wanna
I gotta be adored

I wanna be adored

“Gentle Spirit”–Jonathan Wilson

Gentle Spirit By Jonathan Wilson at TriStudiosTV

This is the most extraordinary musician I have come across in a decade. I have been exploring his music all day from the 2011 Gentle Spirit on Bella Union, and the forthcoming Fanfare, due for release in 2013. You all must check this out!

Jonathan Wilson performs Gentle Spirit. A field recording by James Minchin III.

A hundred blowing up in the headlines
We’ve see it all before
The powers are killing the paupers for some idea of God or whoever

Gentle spirit find our hearts
Gentle spirit find our hearts

Following the leaders with sickness
Ones with no the love within
Peddled cheap drugs all this hatred
Let these words resonate
Everything born from love

Gentle spirit find our hearts
Gentle spirit find our hearts
Gentle spirit find our hearts

Hey don’t you know the circle is the melody
Beauty is a melody
Wonderful the thought of all
Circles are inside of love
Love it is a melody
Beauty is a feeling
Closest to your spirit core
The core it is a circle
Life it is a melody
In the end in the an addiction
Love it is an apple core
Before the fruit was beautiful
Now it is a circle
Life and death a cycle
Cycle is a cadence
Know there are no measureables
Melody is a circle
Melody is a circle
Melody is a circle
Sit beside me and stay a while
Let me feel my life through you
Though we may not last forever
Forever all I’m melodies

Gentle spirit find our hearts
Gentle spirit find our hearts
Gentle spirit find our hearts
Gentle spirit find our hearts
Gentle spirit find our hearts
Gentle spirit find our hearts
Gentle spirit find our hearts

“Dig Me Out”–Sleater-Kinney’

Sleater-Kinney’s Last Show: 24. Dig Me Out

I am a complete newbie to this band.  My first contact with Carrie Brownstein is Portlandia, so my first impression of her is as an actor and hilarious comedian.  My second impression after hearing the amazing band, Sleater-Kinney, is that she is a bad ass musician.  I guess I am kind of bummed that I slept through this band, but thanks to the SGN I have now seen the light. The band also had rockers, Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss.

“Dig Me Out” is just damn good rock and roll.

Dig me out, dig me in
Outta this mess, baby, outta my head
What do you want, what do you know?
One to get started, three till we go
Dig me out, dig me in
Outta this mess, baby, outta my head
Dig me out, dig me in
Outta my body, outta my skin
You got me for now
I’m here for now
What do you want, what do you know?
Do you get nervous makin’ me go?
Get into your sores, get into your things
Do you get nervous watchin’ me bleed?
